NOTE: This information meeting will be the same as the last session, for the people that were unable to join!

After an exciting journey to South Korea, GEVAL is thrilled to announce our next adventure. This time we are going to the beautiful countries: America and Canada. This journey is going to be a full mix of academic and cultural exploration with visits to amazing universities and innovative companies aligned with the Mathematics & Computer Science Department. Our trip doesn’t stop at educational pursuits, we’re also set to discover the beautiful landmark sites and vibrant cities that America and Canada offer. To ensure everyone has all the information on the 22nd of April at MF 15 there will be a second interest lunch, with information about trip details, safety protocols, financial planning and participation criteria. This gathering is your opportunity to get all the answers to your questions and learn how you can be a part of this amazing journey. Whether you’re eager to learn more about the study trip, curious about the destinations or just want to listen, this meeting is for you. Note: Participants in the study trip must be enrolled in one of the Mathematics & Computer Science department programs at TU/e for the academic year 2024/2025 and have earned at least 60 ECTS at TU/e or any other recognized university by the time of registration for the study tour in April.

If you are graduating in the summer of 2025 you can ask the exam committee to delay your official graduation (according to the OER) such that you can still join the study trip.

If you are not able to attend the info meeting or have more questions, please mail geval@gewis.nl and we will provide you with the information needed.

How to bring offline capabilities into a cloud based low code platform (PEGA)

Have you ever thought about how offline applications can make a fieldworker's life easier? De Mandemakers Group delivers 1000 kitchens every week thanks to 650 mobile employees. Our mechanics use the Field Service application to register the delivery and assembly of the kitchen(s). As you can imagine, this is an essential step in our customer journey. Our mobile applications support them during this journey, but often depend on a stable Internet connection. So how do you ensure that your employees can also work offline?

CIO Anjo will introduce you to the company and our business challenges. Pega developer Davy focuses on the use of Javascript possibilities to use the mobile application in an offline situation. This session will show you more about how we use Pega, case management, the interaction between server and client and the use of Javascript. Moreover, we would like to introduce you to the possibilities our Dutch company can offer for a career in Tech & IT.

By attending this lunch lecture, you will discover the symbiosis between low-code and Javascript and learn more about Pega; a cloud based low-code software platform.

Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve, priority will be given to students that sign up with their GEWIS account.

    Dear reader,

Even if you have been living under a rock, you must have noticed that Hèt Dispuut has already organized numerous activities this academic year. We kicked off the year strongly with the amusing opening of the academic year, providing a preview of all the grand events our fraternity would organize this year. This was followed by a fantastic lustwijn week, where each day was filled with enjoyable activities. Subsequently, we continued with a party together with ATHENA and GEPWNAGE and we welcomed back the members of the association after a long, cold Christmas break.

To up the ante, we even organized another Kitchen with I.V.V to make sure you could enjoy listening to I.V.V'ers speak from the comfort of your own home.

Although we as a fraternity never cease to organize the most prominent events, we also enjoy the simpler things in life. A glass of wine, with a tasty snack. No frills, just simple enjoyment. And as we noticed that there was an unused evening in April, it would be perfect for a nice, simple, Ordinary Maand'lijksche Borrel. That after this year of thrills and excitement, we can go back to drinking a nice wine at "Het Dakterras" once more.

So, dear reader, join us on the twenty-third of April at 17:00 as we return to "Het Dakterras" to enjoy plenty of wine and snacks.

    Met hoogachtende groeten,

    Dhr. Oosterholt

    Praeses der "In Vino Veritas"

    Dear students,

On Wednesday the 24th of April, C4 is organizing a great career event: The C4 Company Dinner! For only 15 euros you will get a full dinner with drinks as well as a borrel afterward in restaurant The Spijker and you will be able to talk to five companies about anything you want.

At the dinner, five companies will attend, of which you can choose Three to talk with. With all of them, you will enjoy three nice courses and 5 drinks to discover the career possibilities they have in an informal conversation. At the end of the dinner, there will also be a social drink where you can talk with all of the other companies, or talk some more with your favorite company.

Are you a Master's student? Then you are lucky! If there are more than 60 people subscribed to this activity, we will put Master students first. We will ask for your preferred meals later on, but there will be both meat and vegetarian options. Make sure to let us know your field of interest and which companies you would like to have dinner with.

The companies that will attend are:

    RiskQuest Bol.com Anago Wolfpack ING

    Information about the companies:

RiskQuest: RiskQuest is a quantitative consulting firm specialized in the development of state-of-the-art models and solutions for effective financial risk management, preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, and making data-driven decisions to realize a sustainable strategy. Our services span the entire spectrum of model utilization: encompassing data management, model development, model validation, and policy and strategy formulation. In addition to our work with prominent financial institutions, we also engineer "in-house" models to cater to the specific needs of our clients. Our expanding team boasts 60 exceptional quants with a strong commercial sense and the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences, be it management, development teams, or academic stakeholders.

Bol.com: The place where you can be 100% you

Bol, truly the store of us all. A place where you can be a 100% yourself. That is our ambition. You can only be yourself if we create a place where every boller feels safe and at home. And we create that place together. Because if everyone is curious and willing to keep on learning, we can take new steps together, full of confidence. We achieve this by consistently improving every day, in true bol style.

This is how we make bol the employer where you can just be you.

    Anago: Anago? Anago? - Yeah

Anago comes from Ancient Greek and means ‘to take to a higher level’. And we do. With our customers, but also ourselves.

We are a fast-growing organization that makes smart planning solutions in an industry that is in full swing. With our planning solutions we take several customers to a higher level. - How? How? Especially with each other. We work together in small teams of fine colleagues on our planning solutions. We are driven and working hard for our clients. But... hard work always goes with us to work with pleasure. In addition, we always set the bar high, so that Anago itself can be lifted to a higher level again and again.

Wolfpack: Wolfpack is a software company in Eindhoven. We work with 20-25 developers in teams on varying projects. For every client we compile a ‘pack’ of specialists with 3 to 8 wolves. Wolves continuously share their strategies, experience, and knowledge. This structure ensures a dynamic, highly intelligent, and flexible team. We can code in almost any coding language and support clients in solving their most challenging IT issues, like no other company can.

ING: ING, the leading Dutch bank for digital banking.

You’ll know us through our mobile banking app that lets you carry out all your bank transactions yourself. And you’ll probably know us as the main sponsor of multiple sports and culture initiatives such as the Rijksmuseum and Dutch football.

Customer experience is what differentiates us and we’re continuously innovating to improve it. We also partner with others to bring disruptive ideas to market faster. Our more than 60,000 employees serve around 37 million customers, corporate clients and financial institutions in over 40 countries.

We help our customers to stay one step ahead, in both their private and professional lives. The same goes for our own people, of course. Their wellbeing is our top priority. We make sure everyone can feel good about themselves and maintain a good work-life balance.

    --

We hope to see you there!

    Kind regards,

    C4

    Hey everyone,

Every year our sister association, W.S.G. Abacus, creates a puzzle booklet for their members. This year they want to expand to all of WISO and they have asked us if members are interested.

We, the board, see many of you enthousiastic members making the Sudoku or the Crossword puzzle each day. So, we know some of you are very excited for this. They do have one request, that we also send them a couple of puzzles for this booklet.

If you are interested in receiving a WISO puzzle booklet please subcribe to the sign up list below. If you are interested in making a puzzle please send a mail to board@gewis.nl and we will send you the puzzle booklet (as pdf) from last year. The puzzles have to be send to the board on the 5th of May at the latest.

    xoxoxo,

    Your lovely board!

Please note: If you are interested in making a puzzle, be creative, Abacus would like to not only receive crosswords and sudokus

    Dear (sportive) members,

Are you also looking forward to better and sunnier weather in coming spring? What better way to start off spring by running the most fun relay race of them all, the Batavierenrace! In the weekend of the 24th till the 26th of May, we from GEWIS will once again travel to Nijmegen to run together a distance of 175km to Enschede, divided into 25 parts, running during the night, in the morning and in the afternoon.

Like last year, we are running with two teams, so make sure to subscribe soon to not only run with us but enjoy the biggest student party in Europe on Saturday! If there are not enough subscriptions we will join with one team. In case of too many subscriptions, there will be a draw. We will sleep in our own tents on the campus of Twente University and every time a new team will go to their starting point to take over the responsibility of the prior team to run GEWIS to the finish. Hopefully, you're looking forward to this relay race just as much as we do (or even more of course)!

    With sportive regards, GESPORT.

Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2024!

This year, we will visit the Nonceveux in the Belgian Ardennes. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are climbing, traversing a trail between treetops and canoeing. Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.

You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saterday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).

The weekend will take place from 7th till 9th of June 2024. If you want to join please subscribe below. As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Belgium, people with a car available wil be given priority if necessary. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent and how many people could fit in it. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)

We are planning on taking 50 persons to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible! When there is a lot of interest, we may be able to scale up, but we cannot promise anything yet!

    Met takken!

After almost a year of studying and telling your parents how much you loved your time here, especially the BAC borrels, it is time to let your parents experience the same. On the 13th of June, the BAC will organize the 'Os pa en ma borrel', which is Brabants for 'Dad and mom borrel'. As the name explains, you can bring your parents to enjoy a nice cold Grolsch (or a cold soda!) together with your fellow studymates. So invite your parents and come have a beer with them!
